Review: Figma 086 Izumi Shizuno

December 22, 2010 6 comments

In the spotlight today is the 4th Se.Kirara girl to be released, Izumi Shizuno. This time I’ll be breaking Zai’s streak of reviewing the Se.Kirara line because, well, Izumi happens to be my favorite. An awesome shade of blue hair, short skirt, and big… proportions, yes. Sadly, this will probably mark the end of our Se.Kirara reviews since we will be passing on the final girl in the series, Miyuki Mana. But let’s see how Izumi and her accessories turns out!

Review: Figma 082 Luka Megurine by Max Factory

Luka Title

For a popular Vocaloid such as Luka Megurine, there are surprisingly few figures of her available to the mass market. I own the Nendoroid Petit but the pose on her is a little meh. The full Nendoroid just looks like a bigger version and there are a few Nendoroid variations and statues floating around. So when the Figma was announced, I was ecstatic, and it seemed many of you were as well. Does she live up to the hype though?

Review: Black Rock Shooter Animation Ver. by Good Smile Company

Black Rock Shooter Title

One of the year’s most anticipated figures. THE Black Rock Shooter figure. Sorry Original and Black Blade, you guys had boring poses. The chains, the motion, that gun! Awesome! But wait. Missing star? Hair breakages galore? MG grade assembly skills needed? What’s going on?

Giveaway Results: Figma 078 Aya Kagura

Figma Aya with violin

After a week of entries, we have decided on who will be Aya’s new owner! I’m being really careful not to call this a ‘contest’ because there wasn’t really any criteria we judged on and well, the prize isn’t the greatest thing in the world, it’s a defective figma (although a very cute one with awesome accessories).

Review: Revoltech Yotsuba and Danboard

Revoltech Yotsuba and Danboard

Today we have a double review, Revoltech Yotsuba and Danboard! Both of these were originally released around late 2007 but have recently seen rereleases in October 2010. Since they’re fairly simple figures and they make such fun photos together, I’ve decided to do a double review! In case you don’t know where these 2 characters come from, they are from the utterly hilarious manga series Yotsuba&! drawn by the talented Kiyohiko Azuma that follows the adventures of the cheeky youngster Yotsuba. Danboard appears briefly in the manga when Miura, one of Yotsuba’s friends, dons a cardboard robot costume and is mistaken by Yotsuba as a futuristic visitor that is fueled by money.

Review: Figma 09 Fate T Harlaown

Fate T Harlaown

I didn’t expect to be doing any figure reviews in September, and just as well since we were moving this month but some unexpected rereleases as well as a last minute dash to get figma Yu means we are rolling again! Today’s review is one of those unexpected rereleases: figma Fate T Harlaown Barrier Jacket ver. She’s a fairly old figma, originally released in July 2008 and after seeing her 5000 yen price on Mandarake, I kinda gave up on her. But a chance to grab her at below retail (2080 yen at AmiAmi)? A quick break from work to exercise some buy button pushing skills was in order. Thanks for the restock Max Factory! But with her age, can she stand toe to toe with current figmas?

Review: Fauna by Alter

Fauna Title

Today I’ll be reviewing an older figure that we managed to snag recently: Fauna from the eroge and anime OAV Megamisama Chuuihou or Megachu! for short. There are actually 2 versions of Fauna, one by Alter and one by Max Factory. The one we have here is the Alter version which was originally released in June 2007 and rereleased in July 2008. The only difference between the 2 release dates is the blister card on the front of the box.
