Loot: August 2010

Loot

Well, uhmm.. we ended up getting quite a bit more than we expect in August. We went to Manifest (anime convention in Melbourne) this month so we expected to pick up a few small things there but were also caught offguard with some harder to get figures we were after showing up on Mandarake’s online store! Oh, and please click the images if you’d like a larger photo. Auto resize squished them a bit. ;_;

Review: Composite Ver Ka Gurren Lagann

August 25, 2010 3 comments

Composite Ver Ka Gurren Lagann Title

Todays review is about one of the most recognizable mecha from recent series: Gurren Lagann. This particular version is the Composite Ver Ka, designed by Hajime Katoki. I’m putting this up little late, we received this bad boy about 2 weeks ago via SAL, ehehe, but there doesn’t seem to be too many other reviews up surprisingly. I had always been interested in the Revoltech Gurren Lagann figures (which look like they might be getting a rerelease soon) but this figure had something that managed to beat them to the punch.

Our most wanted figures

August 23, 2010 Leave a comment

Luthren: Since we have some delay in our reviews due to my Macbook being in the shop, we thought it would be fun to share some of our most wanted upcoming figures. It was a tough battle due to lots of really really cool figures announced in the recent WonderFest and latest Hobby Japan scans but we’re trying to narrow it down to top 3, with some honorable mentions.

News: Manifest 2010

August 22, 2010 2 comments

I’d been looking forward to the 21st of August for awhile as while both my partner (Luthren) and I have been to a couple of conventions in Melbourne since we moved here, we had never attended Manifest (Melbourne Anime Festival) so we decided to rectify that this year. We had a couple of mishaps on the way as I had go and vote that day and we didn’t realise we had forgetten our passes to the convention until we were already on the tram but we made it there eventually!

The big pull for us was, of course, the merchandise and we were pleasantly surprised, the trader’s hall was a good deal more full than we expected and there wasn’t a bootleg in sight!

Photo Fun: Unboxing!

August 16, 2010 6 comments

Luthren ran in this morning and woke me up to let me know that a parcel had arrived from Mandarake. I promptly told him to leave it on my desk as I wanted to to photograph an unboxing ’cause it looked kinda fun.

After a couple of cups of coffee, I wandered over to my desk to find the box and Haruhi looking rather excited!

Unboxing

So I grabbed a camera and Haruhi grabbed her minions friends and did our very first photo unboxing!

Photo Fun: My Camera and Thoughts

August 9, 2010 4 comments

Zai’s been pushing me to do a blog post for awhile now and since we haven’t had any figures coming in I thought it might be a good idea to take a look at the gear we use to take photos. I’ll apologize in advance if I get too tech-nerdy but I just love my gadgets. Since I’m lazy, I’ll just talk today about our camera and perhaps on other days I’ll talk about our other tools. I guess you could call this a review of our camera.

Flash Review: Haruhi Suzumiya Gekisou ver. by Zai

August 6, 2010 Leave a comment

I’ve already taken a look at both Mikuru and Yuki from the Gekisou series of figures so I thought it was about time I got around to Haruhi herself! If you’re (somehow) not familar with the character, she’s Haruhi Suzumiya from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. The figure is a Max Factory 1/8 scale and was released in April 2009 and like Gekisou Yuki, she’s a popular figure who is now worth a lot more than what she retailed for! Since this is a Flash Review of an older figure, I’ll keep this short so onto the photos!
